BlueMonk
Rasull Soon, also known as BlueMonk, is a seeker of spirituality through music.
Spiritual endeavor, musical creativity and an understanding of electronics have always been a way of life for Rasull, shaping him into the artist he is today. He studied microprocessor electronics, attended a technical college, and worked as an electronic technician for several years, which no doubt would have a remarkable impact on his music. His enthusiasm in electronics led him to experiment in building not only effects for his guitar but also his own instruments, including a keyboard synthesizer and drum machine.
He composed his first piece, “Let there be Light,” which was subsequently selected for the finals of The World Peace Song Kite Festival held in Malaysia in the mid ‘80s. “Let there be Light” went on to be nominated as first runner up in the competition. He also received a letter of appreciation from Hyatt Regency Saujana Kuala Lumpur for outstanding performance and dedication, which they stated contributed as a key factor in them receiving The Millennium Gold Award for 2001/2002.
In 1998, he stopped performing live and ventured into music production with a prominent Jingle and recording studio, Betarecs, for three years. During that time his composition abilities were crafted, and he composed hundreds of TV and radio commercial jingles and numerous songs for a few local artists. He received the Bronze Award for Best Sound Design in the Malaysian Video Awards (2000) and later a Gold Award in 2002.
By 2005, he ventured into new age and ambient music. In early 2008, John Rawsthorne of Ninewells Music took recognition to his talents and two meditation music projects were discussed. His native, spiritual seeking personality finally found a meaningful foundation where he could actually express his inner passion in creating music that he loved and cherished the most.
